MLTSSL – Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List

The Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) contains 216 occupations.

The list is prescribed in LIN 19/051: Specification of Occupations and Assessing Authorities) Instrument 2019.

MLTSSL is the occupational demand list which is in high demand across various states and territories of Australia.

It is particularly relevant to the following visas in particular:

  • Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189)
  • Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489)
  • Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485)

It is important to note that the list will change, and you should always ensure you have checked the latest version of the list.

How does it apply to the Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (TSS Visa) subclass 482?

If you are considering the Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (TSS Visa) subclass 482, you must ensure that your selected occupation is on the Combined List of Eligible Skilled Occupations.

If you locate your occupation, it will belong to one fo the following lists:

  • Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)
  • Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL)
  • Regional Occupation List (ROL).

The benefit of the MLTSSL is that you can reapply for a new visa as many times as you like both in and outside of Australia as long an employer willing to nominate you each time. There is also a pathway to permanent residency which is not the case with the STSOL.

What are the occupations that are currently on the MLTSSL?
