Permanent visa option for nominations on Regional Occupation List

In April 2022 the Department of Home Affairs announced news for Temporary Skill Shortage (482) visa holders who had a nominated occupation on the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL): they were to now have a pathway to permanent residency through the Employer Nomination Scheme (186) visa. Previously this was only available to those with a nominated occupation on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSST).

While this was wonderful news for those with an occupation on the STSOL, it did leave those with an occupation on the Regional Occupation List (ROL) as still being ineligible for this permanent visa pathway.

However, on 13 February 2023, this pathway became available for those with an occupation on the Regional Occupation List. To be eligible, this cohort must have been in Australia for at least one year between 1 February 2020 and 14 December 2021  and hold a Temporary Skill Shortage (482) visa. They are then able to make an application through the Employer Nomination Scheme – Temporary Residence Transition Scheme (186).

This visa pathway is currently available for two years, from 1 July 2022.
