Australia is recruiting – New Global Talent Visa

Australia has introduced a streamlined, priority visa pathway for highly skilled and talented individuals to work and live permanently in Australia.

The Government and industry has recognised there is growing competition for talent around the globe and to compete we must have a pathway that leads to certainty for people wishing to come to Australia.

The program is looking at recruiting up to 5,000 highly-skilled migrants in the following industry sectors:

  • Space and high-end manufacturing;
  • Food and agricultural business;
  • Digital technologies, quantum information, data science and cyber security;
  • Energy and resources;
  • Medical technologies and pharmaceutical;
  • Major infrastructure and urban development; and
  • Financial technology.

Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs David Coleman said, “With this program, we are targeting the world’s most highly skilled migrants” and “Over time, the Global Talent program has the potential to have a transformative impact on the Australian economy.”

Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Karen Andrews said, “We can create high-paying local jobs by making Australia a global technology hub and the Global Talent program is a signal to tech companies that we’re open for business.”

Global Talent Officers from the Department of Home Affairs have already been deployed in Berlin, Washington DC, Singapore, Shanghai, Santiago, and Dubai, and will have regional coverage. An officer has also started in New Delhi today, to further the reach of the program.

Candidates should have the ability to attract a salary at or above the Fair Work high income threshold (FWHIT), which is currently AUD148,700. This figure is adjusted annually on 1 July.
